Counseling for Anxiety

Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:7

Anxiety is not a sign of weak faith. It is not a sin, and it is not something you have to white-knuckle your way through alone. At Grace and Nature Group, we understand that anxiety can feel like a whirlwind—an internal tension that steals your peace, crowds your thoughts, and makes even the simplest tasks feel like mountains. But we also believe that healing is not only possible—it is promised.

Even the Saints Had Heavy Hearts

Some of the Church’s most radiant lights knew the weight of anxiety intimately:

  • St. Thérèse of Lisieux experienced intense scrupulosity and panic in her early years.

  • St. John Henry Newman wrote of his melancholic temperament and inner turmoil.

  • St. Ignatius of Loyola, after his conversion, had to learn to discern the difference between spiritual desolation and anxiety-driven doubt.

These saints did not “fail” at holiness because they struggled. Their witness reminds us that sanctity is not found in being untroubled, but in trusting God through the trouble. As G.K. Chesterton said, “Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of a readiness to die.” Or, we might say: a strong desire for peace taking the form of walking into the chaos with Christ beside us.

Is it Spiritual or Psychological

For many Catholics, anxiety brings an extra layer of distress: Is this a spiritual attack? Am I doing something wrong? Shouldn’t I just pray more?

While prayer is a vital lifeline, it’s not meant to carry the whole weight of healing alone. God created us with both grace and nature: and therapy can be a means by which He restores both. Clinical counseling and Catholic spirituality are not at odds. In fact, they can work beautifully together to help you:

  • Name what you’re experiencing

  • Understand why it’s happening

  • Learn how to respond, not just react

  • Begin to experience real interior freedom

What Counseling Can Offer

Our therapists combine evidence-based tools with the lens of the Catholic worldview. This is not therapy in spite of your faith, it’s therapy through your faith. Counseling can help you:

  • Recognize and gently challenge anxious thought patterns

  • Learn grounding techniques and coping skills for daily peace

  • Address scrupulosity or moral fears in a safe, theological context

  • Explore root causes of anxiety: emotionally, relationally, spiritually

  • Integrate your faith into the healing process, not separate from it

You’re not too much. You’re not failing. You’re not alone.
Let’s take a step toward peace together.
